We're not in Kansas anymore

A drama was unfolding on one of the college campuses that AFT Washington represents as I arrived in Seattle. Faculty members had set up a table on campus with campaign literature and information. They were soon told by the administration that they had to disband or would be removed. The concept of college as a place where ideas compete appears to be unheard of at this particular campus. 

We've lost so much during the Bush administration; the right to engage in public discourse about critical issues is a terrible loss.
